Why do I make games
Games have been a constant in my life since I picked up a controller at seven years old. There’s a particular kind of comfort and escapism they offer, something other media just can’t quite replicate.
That said, for a long time, games existed more in the background. I’d spend countless evenings playing the same three or four titles on a loop, doing a very similar playthrough each time, never really trying to “play properly.” They were a familiar space more than anything.
My career path has been varied, but I’ve always gravitated toward creative work both professionally and in my personal life. Then a toxic workplace experience forced me to take a step back and ask some big questions: what do I actually care about? What kind of work do I want to be doing, and who do I want to be doing it with?
That’s when Lee and I started talking seriously about game development. It felt right, like something we could build together that aligned with our skills, our values, and the kind of life we wanted. So Raguthra was born.
At the end of the day, I make games because I like them and because I don’t like corporate power-trips or manipulative colleagues. I believe I can do amazing things when I’m not metaphorically being hunted for sport in an office — and if I can create something that gives someone a cozy escape from the world, then that feels like time well spent.
