A game idea I’m not ready for yet.
I mentioned this briefly in our first newsletter—there’s a story I really want to turn into a game, but it’s just... not ready. Yet.
The idea? You’re forced to travel back in time and play as your character’s younger self. There’s a mystery in your town that you have to solve at the time of it occurring, and the twist is, you’re trying not to mess up your own future while doing it. Timey-wimey, narrativey stuff.
But here’s the thing. There are... problems:
Paradoxes. So many paradoxes. I'd have to make up my own time travel rules and actually stick to them (gross).
Player choices. How would the player know what decisions not to make? How do you keep the future intact when you don’t know what’s important?
The whole mystery thing. If solving it changes the future, do you ruin the outcome by solving it? So... what then?
More paradoxes. They're everywhere. Help.
Is it fun??? Like... actually fun? Or just an interesting thought experiment dressed up as a game?
So yeah. There’s a lot to figure out. Right now, most of what I’ve got is vibes—cool vibes, but vibes nonetheless.
It’s shelved for now. But it’ll be back.
