Honestly? Solving problems.
As a semi-solo dev, every day is a new challenge. To paraphrase The Martian: solve enough problems, and you have yourself a game.
Some folks might find that stressful—but not me. My brain thrives on this stuff. I’ve literally dreamed up solutions while asleep. I break every part of development down into solvable puzzles.
Take Henchman 34, for example. I was stuck on how to streamline the opening scene—too much dialogue, too early. A few days later, it hit me: a vintage comic book ad to set the scene in a single screen. Bam. Problem solved. Endorphins activated.
And if it hadn’t worked? That just would’ve been another puzzle to solve.
That freedom to experiment and try unconventional things is what I love most. Game dev isn’t about doing things the “right” way—it’s about finding your way.
